WORKING PEOPLE UNITED SECURES SGF’S SUPPORT AS GRASSROOTS MOBILISATION GAINS MOMENTUM

ABUJA, September 18, 2026

Working People United (WoPU), a national grassroots organisation committed to mobilising and empowering working people across Nigeria, has secured the support and blessings of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), His Excellency, Senator George Akume, following a strategic meeting with the organisation’s leadership in Abuja.

The high-level meeting brought together key government officials and the leadership of Working People United, including the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, and the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA), Dr. Barr. Pius Ukeyima Akutah.

The National Coordinator-General of Working People United, Comrade Prince Williams E. Akporeha, formally introduced the organisation to the SGF and outlined WoPU’s vision, structure and growing grassroots mobilisation across the country.

Comrade Akporeha explained that the organisation is mobilising working people at the grassroots to educate them on the importance of civic responsibility, democratic participation and the need to remain actively engaged in the affairs of the nation.

He also spoke on the policies and programmes of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing the importance of continuity to enable Nigerians to fully experience the impact of ongoing reforms and programmes.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of honours to the SGF by the National Coordinator-General. Senator George Akume was decorated and presented with an award recognising him as a Responsible Citizen of Nigeria, alongside an Award of Appreciation in recognition of his contributions and service towards the development of Nigeria and the welfare of its working people.

Responding to the presentation and the issues raised during the meeting, Senator George Akume expressed his appreciation for the honour and commended Working People United for its organisation, leadership and grassroots orientation.

The SGF said he was highly impressed by what he saw and expressed satisfaction that he had made time out of his busy schedule to meet with the organisation.

In a significant show of support, Senator Akume declared his support for Working People United and gave his blessings to the organisation, as it continues its grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking further, the SGF employed a biblical analogy, stating that Nigerians were not going back to the “land of Egypt,” but were moving towards the “land of Israel.” He identified President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the leader taking Nigerians towards that destination and declared that Nigerians were not turning back.

Senator Akume also expressed his support for the ongoing mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He further disclosed that he would meet with the President upon his return and stated that Working People United would hear further from him.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with expressions of partnership, mutual goodwill and renewed commitment to the mobilisation of working people across Nigeria.

The engagement marks another significant step in Working People United’s efforts to deepen its grassroots presence and build stronger relationships with key stakeholders in pursuit of its objectives.
