WORKING PEOPLE UNITED INAUGURATES KOGI STATE CHAPTER, UNVEILS GRASSROOTS MOBILISATION AGENDA
LOKOJA, KOGI STATE — OCTOBER 9 2026

Working People United (WoPU), a national grassroots organisation representing working people across Nigeria, has inaugurated its Kogi State Chapter in Lokoja, with a charge to build a strong, disciplined and inclusive grassroots structure capable of mobilising working people across the state.
The inauguration, held at Fen Hotels, Lokoja, brought together representatives of labour unions, professional associations, informal-sector groups, women, youths, persons with disabilities, civil society representatives, community stakeholders and other supporters.
The event marks another significant step in WoPU's ongoing national grassroots mobilisation programme and its drive to establish a structured platform for the participation and representation of working people across Nigeria.
KOGI MUST BECOME A STRONG GRASSROOTS BASE
Delivering the keynote address, the National Secretary of Working People United, Comrade Moses Sunday Oladapo, representing the organisation's national leadership, charged the newly inaugurated Kogi State leadership to embrace unity, discipline, responsibility and purposeful grassroots engagement.
He stated that WoPU's mission goes beyond wages and conditions of service, stressing that the organisation is committed to constructive engagement, responsible advocacy, civic participation and policies that promote the welfare, productivity and dignity of working people.
According to him, the Kogi State Chapter must take the organisation to the grassroots by reaching communities, engaging workers in both the formal and informal sectors, and building a strong structure capable of giving working people a meaningful voice.
SUPPORT FOR PRESIDENT TINUBU AND THE RENEWED HOPE AGENDA
A major component of the inauguration was WoPU's declared political position in support of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, alongside its support for candidates it considers progressive at the federal and state levels.
Comrade Oladapo explained that WoPU's decision to support the Tinubu administration is based on its assessment that the reforms of the administration deserve the opportunity to mature and deliver their intended benefits.
He, however, acknowledged that the reforms have also come with difficulties and sacrifices for many Nigerians, particularly working people, stressing the need for continued engagement and attention to the welfare of citizens.
GRASSROOTS MOBILISATION TAKES CENTRE STAGE
The newly inaugurated Kogi State Chapter was charged to:
- Mobilise and sensitise working people across Kogi State;
- Educate members on government policies and programmes;
- Encourage civic participation and voter registration;
- Establish WoPU structures across all local government areas and wards;
- Engage workers and communities through responsible advocacy;
- Encourage active participation in the democratic process; and
- Promote unity, discipline and peaceful political participation.
The organisation said its mobilisation activities would involve sustained engagement with workers, communities, professional groups, labour unions and informal-sector associations across the state.
WoPU PLANS 10 MILLION WORKING PEOPLE SOLIDARITY RALLY IN FCT
As part of its wider national mobilisation programme, Working People United also announced plans to organise a 10 million working people solidarity rally in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the FCT Minister.
The proposed rally, according to WoPU, is designed to demonstrate the strength of working people's participation in national development, democratic engagement and political mobilisation.
WoPU said the planned FCT mobilisation would draw support from its grassroots structures and working people across both the organised and unorganised sectors.
The organisation reiterated that its political support for President Tinubu and the APC is an organisational position, and that the Kogi State Chapter is fully committed to the position of the national leadership.
